I think this works better as a conceptual story than an actual fully written out novel for me. There’s at least another 9 books in this series, so I’m definitely going to be skipping those. This isn’t a bad story at all, there’s a meaty plot that moves along quickly, but there’s not enough world building for my post-apocalyptic tastes, and I couldn’t get over the baseline concept of a floating war machine that’s survived in the sky for over 200 years with only a team of “Hell Divers” going to the surface to pick up supplies from a war torn hellscape infested with unfriendly creatures that might could be the radiological descendants of humanity. The method of getting supplies back up to the sky ships is also pretty dubious, just strapping a balloon to it and letting it drift back up to humanity. If you can get past my personal hangups, then this series might be up your alley!

This is one I wanted to like, but like you, found that the sci-fi explanations just did not hold up to basic scrutiny. That on top of almost every twist being predictable, and the ending being underwhelming, made me also declining to go any further into the series.
The name of the main guy was too ‘try hard’ for my tastes as well, might as well have named him “Hero Protagonist”
If you have not yet, I would recommend “All Systems Red” by Martha Wells. The first one is really short, so if you do not like the world, not much invested. Really fun character studies.
oh the murderbot diaries! I think I have the first few of those on my kindle from when TOR was giving away books every couple weeks during covid.
I think there are up to six now. I listened to them on audio-book, and still go back to them when I want something comforting while working.
