If you want to know what 90’s film making was like, this movie is a great look into the transition from the nitty gritty 80’s style to the slightly less gritty but still grungy around the cuffs 90’s films. This is by no means one of Robin’s better films, nor is it Jeff Bridges’. In fact I would suspect that most anyone reading this wouldn’t have known anything about the film. There’s two exceptionally broken men in this story, neither of whom ultimately find their way back to being whole, though one of them decidedly gets the shorter end of the shit stick. The only reason I could suggest this film is if you wanted to see Robin Williams completely nude in a somewhat surprising full fronting moment in the middle of Central Park in the middle of the night. Sure there shadows, but you know exactly what you’re looking at, especially if you rewind a few times and take a good hard look.
The ending is strong,, but man this was a 90’s film dedicated to the highs and lows of NYC. I’m not sure if the city’s all that much better currently, but surely isn’t not worse, is it?
