This is it, the final season that I’m going to check in on the Doctor. I actually love Jodie Whittaker in literally everything else that she’s done, so I find no fault in her as an actor, but instead I lay it 100% on the show runners and the remarkably uninteresting scripts they threw in her general direction. The special effects are great, the companions are suitably weird (but lovable) but there wasn’t a single episode in the last two seasons of the show that I thought to myself “yeah this was worth my time”.
Hopefully soon one of two things will happen: the show will find it’s audience and they’ll keep doing what they’re doing, or they’ll find new show runners and I’ll like what they’re doing. I’ll check back in on the franchise in a few years to see what they’ve done.
It’s definitely the writing. I’ve liked the actors and even some of the storylines themselves, but the individual scripts have been pretty weak. We marathon watched the most recent season and that made it more obvious.
Agreed
that’s how I consumed it as well, sat on my DVR for like 6 months because I watched that first episode when it aired and thought to myself “oh, it’s the dalecs again. Ok.”
Haha, oh man. Same. Our DVR even deleted a few episodes they got so old. Fortunately those were on HBOMax.
