Took me a minute to figure out what this person is trying to do. Yeah, that board isn’t going to protect you if that spring comes out of there. The best you can hope for is that the board just knocks you out. I’ve seen older garage springs go into houses when they snap. I’m not sure if the spring in this picture is at as high of a tension as a garage door spring, but this is still a bad idea.
