There were two movies made with this character, but in those he was played by Tom Cruise, a great actor, but not known for his height or bulk. Alan Richson however, is known for being a tall dude with some absolutely impressive bulk, something he’s been building on since I first saw him back in Smallville or even the failed Aquaman television plot. It was a few year between his Aqua-days and when I saw him next in Titans, and I think he spent the entire time lifting heavy things repeatedly until he gained another hundred pounds in pure man meat. So now we have a character being played by someone that looks like how he’s described in the books. How’s the rest of it? Mind you, I’ve never read any of the 28 (!) books, but from all accounts that I’ve heard, he’s supposed to be a bit like Sherlock Holmes, if Holmes was more boxer brute than investigative savant, and in that regard, I’m pretty happy, there’s enough moments in the series that use the “I see by the dirt on your boot” type of deductive reasoning that I’m personally happy. I’m also super happy with the story they ended up telling in the eight 45 minute long episodes, which was long enough to adapt a book, but not fall into the typical thing that streaming shows do with too much filler.

I find myself unable to watch Tom Cruise in anything, fine actor or not, because of his tainted links with scientology. It’s a nasty and cruel religion, and it and everybody associated with it should be shunned.
…Tom Cruise was not in this series at all.
