Just what we need, more consolidation in the video games industry! This follows Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision, and correct me if I’m wrong, leaves us with about 5 large studios to buy video games from.
It remains to be seen if we’ll ever see a future Destiny game on x-box, with how tightly Sony holds onto their IP, we may not see it for years after it’s published.
This has been in the works for months from the other stories I’ve read about it.
I too am against all these studios merging, being bought, etc. Unless someone buys Konami and actually starts developing and publishing games based on the licenses the company is currently using to only make slot machines.
But yeah, the less publishers that exist, the worse things will eventually get for the consumer. Might be great in the short term as “everything is on Game Pass!” but eventually everything being on Game Pass means the cost of Game Pass will go up substantially and there will be no where else to turn to. Maybe, hopefully they’ll still be a few fair amount of independent developers but those may only exist on PC if they refuse to let MS or Sony purchase them.
