Well the show is done and while there were no major missteps, this last episode had about 3 seasons worth of material in it, it’s a shame they didn’t get the time to either edit this down to something with a tighter story or give it just another season to follow through on the promises they were making. Instead what we got was a meandering season with at least two plotlines that ultimately didn’t go anywhere (what was the point of the colony / dead kid?). Don’t get me wrong, this show is completely re-watchable and I don’t regret watching it, unlike Game of Thrones.
The Expanse Season 6

The books (and RPG before that) on which the series is based has a 20 year time jump following the events roughly consistent with the end of season 6. The colony world makes a lot more sense with that information.
From the TV perspective that is likely to be one or more spin off series.
As it was released literally everything on the colonies can be ignored and has no payoff, which saddens me, I feel like they could have focused more on the main story with the time they spent doing that nonsense.
As of now, there are 3 more books after the end of Season 6. They might be hoping to get more seasons. Or, as previously mentioned, a spinoff.
well dang I had no idea there were so many books.
maybe one day I’ll get around to reading them!
