NEW YORK (AP) — A faulty space heater on a chilly Sunday morning sparked a fire that filled a high-rise Bronx apartment building with thick smoke, killing 19 people including nine children. It was New York City’s deadliest fire in three decades.

    space heater = landlord was illegally skimping on the heat. Temperature inside an apartment MUST be at least 68F.

    there’s some talk about how it was federally managed it didn’t have the same upkeep requirements that a state managed building would have, but I’m not sure how much of that is just bullshit
