I interviewed at a place that was not forthcoming with their dress code. During the first interview I only saw the receptionist and the person that interviewed me. During my second interview I saw a lot more employees as it was closer to lunch time.
Before the second interview really got started I inquired about everyone being really dressed up. All the men were in suits. I tried to joke about something like, “big client around today?” and one of the people in the interview spoke up and said that was the normal dress code. I thanked them for their time and left. The salary band for that job was not worth having to buy a ton of nice clothes that I’d have to wear everyday. If the job doesn’t require me to meet with clients on the regular don’t you dare try to make me wear a suit everyday unless you’re going to pay me a ton of money.
I eventually landed somewhere with a more lax dress code and better pay.
