“Monkey Paw” the television series is turned into “Monkey Paw” the horror film by Blumhouse, a production company that has had a couple stinkers, but most of their output has been on the better side, which I’m going to include “Fantasy Island” on the better side list. I’ve heard a fair bit of reviewers dragging on the film, but 2/3 of the film is fantastic and well done. The last third when they try to explain, then re-explain, then re-re-explain who’s doing what to who, and why it’s being done, that’s the stuff that should have been simplified to have just one twisty reveal instead of the 3 or 4 that we ended up with.
It’s still good enough to recommend if you’re in the mood for some psychological horror with hilarious call backs to the original television series.
