Oh what a fool I was, assuming that “getting her man” meant she was finally going to be married! All’s well that ends well, as Glenda Farrell and Barton MacLane are both back as Torchy and McBride, apparently the actors they tried to go with didn’t get the reception that WB was hoping for, so now we’re back to the tried and true. This is a fun story of a counterfeiting ring that’s dropping fake bills at the local dog track, and police are working with the Feds to track them down! Or are they? Due to some typical shenanigans with Gahagan, the crooks are controlling the lines of communication between the local cops and the Feds and feel they’re in a good place to finish dispensing their bad bucks. Unfortunately they didn’t account for Torchy to be on the case (and neither did the Feds, cops, or McBride), and she goes about figuring things out as only Torchy could. I think this is the first Torchy film with no murders or deaths, not that there weren’t several attempts! I also think this is the most ‘in car’ scenes that I’ve seen yet in the series, as there’s several car chases and stake outs that all take place in an absolutely gorgeous convertible that Gahagan rented with the winnings he received from working a madman’s version of a system at the dog track.
It’s a great story and it’s nice to see Farrell and MacLane again, they have great chemistry.
