People that do this are assholes and small minded. Just because something isn’t technically illegal doesn’t make it a dick move. These morons keep doing this shit and it’ll become illegal.
If your insurance company finds out you have modified the exhaust on your vehicle they may also deny you coverage and cancel your policy. Or if you have any claim and the adjuster finds out you have modified the exhaust (or nearly any other mechanical part of your vehicle) they will use that as an excuse to deny your claim. Even if your claim is for hail damage. Or, they may pay that claim but then when it is time for your annual renewal, all of a sudden, you don’t get a renewal offer because they have decided to drop you. Your insurance company will find any excuse to drop your ass if you cost them money.
The guy that hit the cyclists should be in prison for vehicular assault. His insurance should be paying their medical bills. Since he was in his security blanket of a truck, his insurance will probably be on the hook. Since this was done while also committing a felony though, the insurance company may deny the claim and then the victims are free to sue the driver directly. That’ll be fun. Also, good luck on that premium increase, if they don’t drop him and his family entirely. You’ve got multiple At Fault Bodily Injury claims on file and a vehicular assault violation all from a single incident.
