An extreme jump in story and cinematic quality, my one big complaint is that, as usual, the people with actual powers are sidelined for nearly the entire thing, or aren’t used in an effective manner, so it all devolves into admittedly cool martial arts, with rapid camera changes and frequent (reversible) deaths. I’m not kidding about the jump in quality from the prior seasons, there’s a couple episodes that are downright beautiful. I hope that Blackfire comes back for season 4 somehow, because the chemistry between Superboy and the alien princess is fantastic to watch.
Spoiler Nerd rant:
That’s not how the Lazarus Pit works, like at all. In the final episode they drain the one that’s in Gotham and use Superboy to make it rain down on the city, reviving the hundreds of people that were killed in a massive bioweapon attack. The way I’ve always understood the Pits is that it’s not the extremely dangerous chemicals that are dumped into them, but their location, as they’re generally only able to be made at the convergence of several different ley lines, which is where the magic of our entire planet are focused. Additionally, they have an extreme downside in the comics (and even prior shows!) in that they cause maniacal rage and psychosis for a period of time after being revived by them.
