This is my no means a slight against it, but this is half the movie I was expecting it to be. The obvious comparison is to the movie that was released in 1984, nearly 40 years ago, but it’s better to forget what you knew from that adaptation and compare it to the source. There’s still plenty of oddness to the film, but from my memory of the original story, it’s oddness that was in the original text and not from the mind of the directors and script writers.
I enjoyed the movie but I feel it ended way too soon. I hear there’s plans for part two (and part 3) if it’s received well enough, and I would recommend it to anyone that can spare the $15 to watch on HBO Plus Max Pro Premium.
