    This idea would never fly today.

    Bush the Lesser’s War on Terror was the first war we had without any rationing. The first war that didn’t ask the citizenry to give up anything. Because they knew that would backfire.

    I think it would fly just fine today, we already have the system in place, it’s completely opaque to anyone looking around for it, and it’s well used by those that need it.
