We meet Jason Statham’s character again for the first time, turns out he’s the brother of the bad guy from the previous movie, and he’s a super man god level superhero that took out like 70 cops on his way in to the hospital to visit his poor brother who’s still in a coma.
Hector from the first movie is here! and he gets punched right in his face! Everyone’s acting like they’re not multimillionaires, living in a shitty house in a shitty neighborhood, in a shitty city. also, what happened to all their property out in whatever country they were living in after stealing all those millions upon millions of dollars? There’s a cool cameo from Tokyo Drift who doesn’t look half bad for there being 9 years between the movies. We get an introduction to “Mr Nobody” a very Hollywood version of a CIA spook that’s part of a hidden war between terrorists and …the CIA? Then there’s the “god’s eye” device. It’s a bullshit made up piece of tech that they’re saying is a single piece of tech, but the US version is spread out over the entire country and run by thousands of people.
The biggest stunt in this film I think is dropping the Team in cars from plane, something like a HALO jump, but for cars. There’s a ton of ammunition spent in that next scene with a bus that has hundreds of thousands of rounds in a pretty cool weapons system that’s completely unrealistic, and oh hey, Dom’s charger has been rebuilt!
But it’s later destroyed by being jumped off a parking garage to hit a helicoptor. Whilst hitting the helo, Dom is able to attach a bag full of grenades, which The Rock then shoots to blow up the helo. It’s all over the top unbelievable action that at points makes me yawn because there are zero stakes and at this point, no one’s going to really get hurt and everyone is a superhuman driver with impossible skills to get out of any situation.
