Opposition to raising the minimum wage is based on the assumption that these prices haven’t changed. This assumption is made by lawmakers who have not purchased anything directly since then.
My grandmother seemed insulted when I guessed that she paid $25K for her house, because she thought when I said “I don’t know, like 25?”, that I meant $2,500 because what she actually paid was $4,500. Granted that was in the 50s and is in a small town, but still. She recently passed and it looks like that house is going to go for about $150K.
Damn shame that new house, new car, rent, and movie ticket all added a zero before the decimal point, but income didn’t.
