Right.. because all 1300 work side by side and have deep knowledge about those 12 bad cops. Stop with the big scary made up statistics. Yes, the handful of cops that know about the bad stuff the bad cops do should indeed turn them in.
It’s not a statistic – it’s a hypothetical. But that aside, you know as well as I do that there must be many, many cops that see something amiss with their fellow officers and choose to say nothing. It’s certainly far, far more than a “handful”
You don’t need “deep knowledge” of everyone to be able to spot someone who is behaving in a way they shouldn’t – especially is you’re a cop and should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us.
The adage of “see something, say something” should be part of the endemic culture in the police, not fucking optional.
I agree 100% with what you said. What bothers me is the exaggeration of ALL 1300 must be bad due to the few that are. It just paints a picture to the public that ALL cops are bad. And that’s just what we need is for everyone to mistrust every cop.
If you were an honest hard worker at your job, but someone did something and all of the sudden you were being attacked for something that you had nothing to do with, wouldn’t you want to make sure you weren’t lumped in with the bad apples? But nope, someone on the internet posted a hypothetical statement that you and everyone else was bad, and we all know that if it’s posted on the internet, it must be true.
We need police reform, they should always be held to a higher standard, but also we have to support the actual good cops, otherwise they might eventually get fed up and quit and then all we’re left with is the bad cops.
Agree with all that. And you’re right if someone at work did something I didn’t want to be associated with, I’d make damn sure I wasn’t lumped in with them. And I’d start with making sure it was reported. So let’s see more of that. Give everyone someone to support.
“Gallup… polling found that 53% of Americans said they had a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the police in 2019.”

So there’s work to do. I hope Biden’s up to it.
Cops who turn in bad cops get run out of the job.
All Cops Are Bastards.
