“The board’s decision came after an administrative law judge recommended in August that the board rescind Latson’s termination and award him back pay, stating that the records fail to show that he “engaged in misconduct in office, incompetence, or gross insubordination.””
He most definitely engaged in incompetence for saying he couldn’t confirm that the Holocaust was real. That’s some gross mother fucking incompetence right there. Definitely grounds for termination from being an educator in any capacity. Latson said, “I can’t say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee.” Dude shouldn’t even be allowed to serve lunch or erase the fucking chalkboard after being that willfully ignorant.
If his more recent statement, “I regret that the verbiage that I used when responding to an email message from a parent, one year ago, did not accurately reflect my professional and personal commitment to educating all students about the atrocities of the Holocaust.” is true then sure, let’s give him another chance. If he was truly just ignorant and has since educated himself then we shouldn’t continue to punish him for a prior error. People can learn from their mistakes. I hope he didn’t change his tune just so he could get a job back in the district.
At the same time it might be a good idea to keep a closer eye on him to make sure he doesn’t pull this shit again.
If he was a white hillbilly, from deep Appalachia, whose only “authority” is over his SO, who is also his sister, sure.
In ^that case, definitely no second chance as a principal, teacher.
