I was going to skip this, as Sherlock Holmes is a great characters, but I don’t need an entire season of a Netflix series about his kid sister learning the ropes of being a deductionist. Turns out I was wrong, this is not a series, but a fairly entertaining movie that only runs slightly over 2 hours, an amount of time that is suitable for the normally insufferable Sherlock Holmes, or in this case, his equally insufferable kid sister, Enola. There’s a fun story here about a young woman finding her way in a world that isn’t ready for women to have opinions about their own destiny, and I definitely do appreciate the acting abilities of Millie Bobby Brown, but there’s something about that film that still doesn’t quite work for me. It’d be easy to say that it’s the weird fourth wall breaking asides that happen from time to time, and maybe that’s it, but maybe there’s something more here to be complained about.
