True Story. I went to a bookstore one time, looking for a copy of this book. It wasn’t on the shelf, so I went up to the help desk. I says to the lady “I’m looking for Soylent Green”. She says “What’s Soylent Green?”. I’m momentarily surprised that this lady isn’t familiar with the classic, but, barely missing a beat, I say “IT’S MADE OF PEOPLE!”.
She just stares at me, a little annoyed and confused like, while I’m standing there doing my best to not bust a gut at my own great joke. Once I composed myself, I went on to explain the joke to her in a way she totally didn’t care about. Which made it even funnier to me.
p.s. I later learned that the title of the book “Soylent Green” is adapted from is actually called “Make Room! Make Room!”.
