There are definitely a few classes that high schools need to add; personal finance, cooking, carpentry, home electrical, sewing. It would prevent a lot of these kinds of disasters.
Starting in Grade School; Common Sense.
That needs to start at home, and continually be taught at home. Taught, not yelled at when the kid messes up. Taught why the bad thing happened when the kid did the dumb thing. I’ve noticed it is pretty damn effective when we explain to the kid exactly what happened and how to avoid it in the future. Now she’s already pretty self reliant and still in grade school.
