I’ve just stopped buying games that do this kind of thing when I know about it ahead of time. If your game has a permanent XP boost for $5.99, it means you padded the XP grind in order to sell that pass.
I think I would rather have the base price of games go up and all this micro-transaction stuff go away. It sucks to buy a game and see a cool costume already in the game that you can’t get unless you give them additional money. Playing the game to unlock items isn’t so bad, like collect 15 backpacks to unlock a costume.
Unfortunately I think the games as a service type of games have to have some form of micro-transactions or switch to an MMO style subscription in order to keep the servers running.
I’m playing a LEGO game right now that has all those micro transactions in it, but for the most part it looks like I’m going to be able to get to the end game stuff with just logging in every day and doing their dailies.
