More specifically Iran has been listed as a State Sponsor of Terrorism for decades. As of September 14, 2001, Congress gave the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), Pub. L. 107-40, codified at 115 Stat. 224 and passed as S.J.Res. 23, any organization or country considered to be taking part in international terrorism is far game for the use of military force.

Now. Would I say that the AUMF is unconstitutional? Absolutely. So was Vietnam. So was the Korean Police action.
So was Somalia. Congress passes unconstitutional laws all the time.
Reading into that document is maddening. The President can go after anyone labeled a terrorist. Who gets to determine the terrorist label? The President’s men. smdh
