The story of this bunch of recruits starting at Bible Thumper Boot Camp Pooshatucket under the remorseless drill sargeant Lowe inspired the ‘Nam classic Full Metal Jacket. Featured on the covers are some drill squad mottos. Bad case of Pyles (top left) shot Lowe then himself after a traumatic six weeks of bullying about his love of devil food cake and inability to pound the pulpit hard enough. The records are all that is left of them both.

Joker, top right, went on to develop such a fierce thousand yard stare in the jungle hell of suburban Ohio he had to take up wearing an eyepatch to protect himself from people dying when he just wanted to chat about the Good Lord. Rumour has it Joker developed the stare after laying out a hundred possessed worshippers in a revival tent in 52, but that could have been the salmon mousse.
