I used to make exploded orthographic illustrations similar to this for a living.
3D CAD now does it much faster, cheaper, and is very user friendly.

You’re pretty much limited to what the customer wants.
I liked to draw different types of automobile combustion engines;
and once drew Terminator parts for an exhibition, that was fun.
Unfortunately, the vast amount of my work was laid waste by water damage.
Every once in a great while I’ll run across a parts manual or magazine print with my work, but it is rare. Thank you for asking.
