Conclusion from trying to find an aesthetically-pleasing picture of a woman/octopus showing more of her (for scientific purposes, of course), is that no human artist rightly knows what’s going on down there. Merely the sight of the writhing nether realms renders artists unable to count tentacles, unable to attach them in a picture in meaningful ways, fundamentally unable to art. The power of it far surpasses mermaids, that’s for sure.
