Worlds better than Star Wars: Episode 8: The Last Jedi, Solo feels destined to fail at the box office, largely in part to it’s massive budget (they essentially filmed the movie twice!) and because there’s only been six months since the release of the last Star War movie, of which in my humble opinion was a complete misstep for the franchise.
Solo is what we needed: a Star Wars story with no head tilting winks and nods with plenty of back story and great set pieces that results in a great look into the universe surrounding the Jedi without mentioning the goofy religion even once. I’m pretty deep into the lore of the franchise and I was still surprised at the third act shadow cabinet reveal of who was really pulling the string behind the scenes.
This was a good movie, and of the four Star Wars movies Disney has released, this is the second best.
Here’s how I think they actually all line up, from best to worst :
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Solo: A Star Wars Story
- Ep 7: The Force Awakens
- Star Wars Holiday Special
- Ep 8: The Last Jedi
