Saw this opening weekend a couple week ago and I was underwhelmed. DC has no singular vision of their characters and hasn’t built their universe correctly, so the stakes in this movie are just “meh”. There’s an overly CGI’d character that’s come to Earth to destroy everything, but no one in the audience knows who he is and doesn’t know why they should care. Not helping things very much is that there were two stylistically diametrically opposite directors working on the film, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon, neither of whom had a great delivery of their work. I know in the past that Whedon swore off the big block buster type of films for a long while due to studio interference in Age of Ultron, so I really wonder what brought him back for more punishment with the DCU.
If you really enjoyed Man of Steel or Suicide Squad, Justice League may be of interest to you. If you’re like me and thought Batman v Superman was a step in the wrong direction, this is just another step in that wrong direction.
