The first New Line movie that Jason wasn’t a complete doofous in, but it apparently took them a good ten years to make. Luckily someone with a bit of ability was brought on board (Wes Craven!) and they used the actual mythos to run the story, even including a nice summer camp there at the end. I’m sure it was a pain in the butt to figure out how to have both characters properly represented, but I’m happy with the final result.
Next up is the reboot of the Jason franchise and I’ll be done with this run of movies.
