Before giving my impressions of Inhumans, I’d like to remember back to the first couple seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was a tough series to love, with hokey story elements, costumes that should have never seen the light of day and acting that was unfortunate at best. It took it nearly 3 seasons to find itself and still to this day doesn’t fit in with the rest of the MCU as well as it should, with little to no impact on the greater comic book universe it supposedly inhabits.
The same can be said for Inhumans, the story elements are unfortunate, the action is uninspiring and the costumes feel rushed and unimaginative. I could see a world in which, given enough time, Inhumans could be a great series, there’s really only a couple things that would need to change, but I don’t think they’re going to be given the time to work those things out, the damage from the IMAX release was likely too severe. I was one of those fools that paid $30 for my wife and I to go see the first two truncated episodes in a format that did the cheap sets and costumes absolutely no favors.
I’m hoping that the Inhumans get some screen time on future episodes of Agents of SHIELD, but directed by the AoS team and more importantly, given access to their budget. The Inhumans series wasn’t bad, but it was an unfortunate first step for a comic books television series that I don’t think they’ll be able to recover from.
