    This is great.
    I know this is a fiction based on some real characters, but was Esther Williams really such a bitch…?

    NOOO! She was wonderful. She was the female, aquatic version of Buster Keaton and nearly got killed as many times as he did during the course of her career. She was utterly charming (with a wicked sense of humor) onscreen and off. Check out her amazing autobiography, Million Dollar Mermaid, one of the best Hollywood insider life stories ever written.

    Thought so.
    I read an interesting story that she was filming a movie in Hawaii in the late forties and found out she was pregnant. She decided to notify the studio immediately, but as there was no trans-Pacific phone lines, she enlisted the help of a local ham-radio operator.
    She didn’t figure that anyone could listen in…and her pregnancy was public news immediately…I think it was even before her husband knew.
