Fighting for your country when called up is patriotic and heroic.
And part of being a citizen.

Being a conscientious objector…or standing up to protest an injust war based on personal ethics is patriotic and heroic as well.

Weaseling out…for no reason other than self preservation?

No sense of duty if you believe the war is just.
And no sense of right v wrong if you believe the war is unjust.

That is cowardice.
Too cowardly to fight or too cowardly to stand up for what you believe.

And this is exactly the kind of selfish, morally bankrupt, cowardly individual you have selected for your leader.
