Let me fill in the gaps for the conservative unable to expand beyond his simple linear thinking:
This particular issue is more about police learning to diffuse situations rather than escalate them (as police seem to do much better in just about every other Western nation).
If you want to discuss what a heavily armed population adds to the mix, then consider that every confrontation with police becomes a kind of armed stand-off in the eyes of the police, whether a gun is pulled or not.
It significantly lessens the chance of de-escalation, when the police officers default position is fear for his own life.
I hope that helps you understand why backflips aren’t necessary to see that more guns=more shootings.
If you are going to tear me down to try and build credibility for your argument you could do a lot better than accusing me of being a liner thinking conservative. Neither of which are terribly accurate or even insults by the way.
Police are imperfect. Let’s consolidate power within this group and hope that their altruism keeps them from imposing their will on others. How has that turned out throughout history?
Speaking from the experience of being an armed citizen confronted by police it really isn’t that big of a deal. Are you either an armed citizen or a police officer? What experiences are you using to form this bloodbath fantasy? Several times I have complied with being disarmed and was always polite and did everything I could to let the officer know I would cooperate and was not a threat. Most of those stops ended with the officer and I talking about guns and various carry methods.
More guns do not equal more shootings. If that were the case the heavy influx of guns into the US in the past few years would see record gun crime and that just isn’t the case.
My initial claim still stands. The double think of we should only rely on police but police are unreliable still requires some extreme non linear thinking to sum.
Have you been playing attention…?
That “bloodbath fantasy” has been playing out for real just about every night on your prime time news shows.
It’s not a fantasy.
No, police aren’t perfect.
But the ubiquitous nature of guns in your country brings the margin of error for even the smallest mistake or mis-understanding into the very real possibility of a fatality.
As for more guns/less guns….it may very likely be that your country has already passed the thresh-hold where more guns won’t make much difference.
But I was talking about less guns…a lot less.
A sane gun policy like the majority of other Western nations that don’t have your violence problems….
Those were not cases of legally armed citizens going about their day to day business coming to misunderstandings with police and a bloodbath ensuing. Those were criminally insane individuals out looking for trouble. Thank God they used a gun, instead of a truck.
Have you ever held a gun, let alone seen a real one in person?
Where did this fear of guns and what people do with them half a world away come from? Did you not just read where I said I have had several encounters with police while armed and it was no big deal?
Delusions of sanity.
I will continue to live my life as a responsible and free citizen; feel free to continue your life as an unarmed subject victim to the whim of your betters, just don’t expect me to take you terribly seriously. Calling you out is rather fun from time to time I would thank you for the sport, but your feckless arguments are far from praiseworthy.
“Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Ben Franklin.
An angry cop that predicted multiple shootings of unarmed black men and boys would result in anti-cop rhetoric.
Who would have though….?
Let me see if I follow the liberal double think here.
Guns are too dangerous for the common man; only cops should have guns they will protect us.
Cops are racist murderers.
Still can’t do enough mental back flips to make that add up.
