Lil Abner, an unjustifiably ignored comic book movie. It succeeds where Altman’s Popeye fails (although Williams and Duvall are great). LOVE this show stopper where they deliberately don’t even bother with rhymes, just add ‘pone’ onto the end of everything. I guarantee this will be your earworm for the entire week.
It’s fascinating to note that Goldie Hawn was sexually assaualted by Al Capp when she was a teenager starting out in her showbiz career. She managed to fend him off but he shouted at her that she would come to “Nothing!” She did of course win an an Oscar and become a worldwide movie star. There’s no way the mention of ‘Dogpatch’ in this clip is accidental. She says it with such venom!

Impossible not to be entertained by Stubby Kaye.
And be fair…they did rhyme the Corn part….most of the time.
There’s a technical term for that I’m sure.
Anyway…back to Mr. Kaye:

Ever seen such great choreography where the chorus doesn’t even get out of it’s chairs….?
Wonderful stuff. Thank you Gropey!
“Where in god’s name did I grow up? Dogpatch?”
