I’m testing out some lazyloading of images, which only loads images when you actually get to them.
There’s an option to show a loading image, and i’ve been using dickbutt:
I’m going to change it to a much smaller image to see how that affects things.
that’s annoying
Given how slow the site is loading, it seems to load a separate copy of the gif for every single instance. Loading an image that’s larger than the image you actually want to show to tell the user that it’s loading is stupidy stupid.
it’s currently loading a 112KB file. there’s never anything that small on the front page.
Make it a tiny dickbutt then. It’s a part of the flavour of this site already. Bravo.
Hear hear! Do NOT even dream of replacing dickbutt! It is perfect.
Amazing. What used to load in multiple seconds now only takes nearly a minute. Lazy loading is cutting edge.
DICK BUTT FOR EVER
Dick butt is pure win.
Annoying, intrusive, and useless. Draws attention to the obvious. Blocking the loading gif resulted in blocking the picture. Considered viewing MCS with Google cache. Considered a GreaseMonkey script or html source parser to strip it out. Considered myconfinedspace.tumblr.com, giving up comments and ratings. Considered patience, hoping it would go away or become blockable. Do not want.
This SUCKS. All I see is the LOADING shit… it takes forever to load anything. It’s faster for me to click the fucking image and wait for it to load that way. Make it stop, please.
what kind of connection are we talking about here?
I live in the sticks. I am in a DSL situation. So, it’s slow. But I never had any troubles with the old server.
Also, all your’e going to see on this page is the loading stuff, sooooo
Soooo… it’s going to continue to suck? Well, that sucks.
trying to make it suck much less, increased the sensitivity by 3x, so you should only see the loading thing if you’re very quickly scrolling through a LOT of images.
Why not just load the image rather than loading something to tell me its loading the image? Even if the image is tiny, it’s still an extra fetch of data on what seems to be a slow server to begin with. I’m running on a 150/10 connection and the site runs horribly since the server move and this “loading” gif addition. It’s a shame really.
the loading image is applied via css, so except for the first load, there’s no additional calls at all
