Welcome to the new server. Everything you say here will survive until the end of time itself!
Or at least until the day I forget to pay the server bills, LOL!
I’m going to stickie to this post until I see that most of the traffic on the old server has decreased.
While we wait for that, answer this question : what kind of industry do you work in?
me I’m a data analyst and it’s awesome.
I had to do a ipconfig /flushdns to get to the new server. :p
I am/was a network administrator. Almost retired, but it looks like I’ll have to be getting my ass back on Mars, I mean to work. The wife went on disability (after getting laid off), and the bills aren’t going to pay themselves.
shit is broken yo
i am a disappointment
I’m the CEO of Nunya Business Ltd.
But contrary to Coon, I’m pleased – got positive karma once again 😀
Well, until day after tomorrow, or maybe even only tomorrow, if my “fans” find out.
I run an industrial recruitment agency and if that sounds boring you are way off, it’s beyond boring!
When trying to add content getting “You attempted to access the “MyConfinedSpace” dashboard, but you do not currently have privileges on this site” message.
so in order to make the move I had to rename a couple tables, no big deal, right?
WRONG. it’s a huge deal apparently, because wordpress stores all it’s capabilities on a per user per table name basis. so now I’m going to have to carefully consider how to update all 100,000+ user accounts to have the correct capabilities. until then, the submissions will have to wait.
I would not have stored that information in that way. I would have done it by site_id and not table name.
IIRC, “ages ago” there was: “Post now, to prove you’re alive, or get deleted” “theme day”, so doing that should cut that hueg number down.
sadly I was never able to get the joins to work correctly for that operation, but it’s still on my punch list.
Also, wordpress doesn’t seem to delete capabilities when you delete users, so all that crap is still cluttering the place up
I work in the maintenance department at a gov’t of Canada research center. (Am unable to access MCS at work – cause they’ve safened the shit outta our network, yo.)
like…janitor? or magnetic maintenance? “maintenance” is just a broad term in the sciences, lol
My main area of responsibility is our ~100 acres of lawns & the irrigation system that feeds it, but I also do road/parking lot construction/maintenance, snow removal as necessary, planting/maintaining trees, etc.
Basically, I get to play outside like I did when I was a kid – except I have cooler, far more expensive toys now (skidsteer loaders, big old trucks, industrial mowers, side-by-sides) plus that whole pension & benefits thing.
I appreciate the idea of having access to all that equipment!
Systems Analyst…
Web Developer
I take support calls on CT scanners. I also setup and ship computers that interface with these scanners, allowing me to remote in for diagnostics or configurations.
All from the back of your motorcycle?
I’m at Toshiba’s Medical HQ in Tustin (soon to become Canon? look it up). But using the bike sure beats 5-freeway rush hour traffic.
Chocolate Making, involved with Inventory Co-ordination.
koala counter part time gamer beat that. there’s no money in it but it beats counting sheep!
Before I retired, I was a software engineer (database security specialist) and a freelance graphic artist. (I still dabble in the graphic arts a bit) I’ve also been a firearms instructor (still am) and semi-pro wildlife photographer (still am.)
Manufacturing, a bit like this:
That’s pretty cool though
all industrial equipment should have a “smooth jazz” button like this one.
Wow, all these IT people. I’m just a jackass working in a grocery store.
yeah but you could literally be high af and still do your job, whereas the computer people would ruin the company if they did that
Yesterday I couldn’t award stars, or even see karma bits. Today it’s only karma, so progress.
Karma works too.
Tiki, you spoil us 😉
sadly, I had to downgrade the versions of a couple things to make it work, the code on the comment voting stuff is getting pretty deprecated.
Old, but gold 🙂
And now, the pictures aren’t showing.
¯\_(?)_/¯
OK, the pictures load if I use Firefox release. The current nightlies, since you upgraded, have not been showing pictures. Of course, Firefox Nightly is my daily driver.
If I get time, I’ll try the site without any extensions loaded, and if it’s still screwed, I’ll make a bug out of it. I suspect that it’s related to the bug was causing issues with webcomics where the .GIF was resized, and it looked like static.
I’m not going to do it tonight…
is it just the images since the move? cause there’s a useragent check setup, if it’s blank or not on the whitelist then the image gets loaded from img.myconfinedspace.com which hasn’t been synced since the server move.
Yeah, that would explain things. It certainly is trying to load from img.myconfinedspace.com.
ok, if that’s the problem, there’s going to be a universal solution in a while, but until then, you’ll need to use something that discloses your useragent or referrer….or not see the images?
Everything’s all on one server (like 50 sites!) and I can just make a system link, so no more manual syncing of files, lol.
I’m not hiding my useragent or referrer that I’m aware. It might be an extension, trying to make me safe, so, I’ll play with it when I get the chance.
Since the change, “Comments” no longer expands as a drop-down, but opens a page for that item. What was instant, now takes 8-10 seconds to load. The comments are what make this site a community, making this change a barrier. Both Firefox 45.0 and IE11 at 50Mbs.
Also, is there a HowTo for adding my profile/avatar comment picture? Or a contact for Help, like if I durped a post and want to delete it?
there’s some shenanigans going on with the JS that’s supposed to make it all dynamic, I’ve added it to the list of things to worry about
sorry, I spaced on the second paragraph. here’s how to do your gravatar: www.myconfinedspace.com/about/#faq_14
the dropdown will be back, but only after I get the server stability back to a less than painful baseline.
Sustainability.
I help companies cut their operating costs through green building design and operations while doing a solid for the planet.
3d modeller and CNC programmer/operator.
what scale?
I design, install, service, and maintain fire sprinkler systems.
