Finally got round to seeing this a few days ago. IMO it’s been miss-sold as a straight horror movie. In actuality it’s a love letter to Mario Bava, Giallos and Gothic literature. Unless you’re well versed in those things and get the references you’re going to be all at sea. Unfortunately it wears its influences on its sleeve and then takes that sleeve and rubs it in your face. I still enjoyed the hell out of it.
