Watching this after being scolded by my entire office when I mentioned that I hadn’t seen it yet, it’s a delightfully cheesy movie with a confusing plot and lots of racist humor, a true period piece of what American thought of other races in the 80’s. It unfortunately hasn’t aged well, I can only imagine how I would have liked it if I had watched it when it first came out.
Hmmm not sure about the “‘Mericans thought about other races like this during the 80’s” part. It was still OK for major corporations to make money off these jokes, the same jokes that at the time you would never tell in front of your own friends because you knew they were mean spirited jokes. It was a fluff summer movie few people cared about except as a background to screwing in the drive in between drinks. Lotsa fun those days…
that’s what made it acceptable though, that people just accepted that of course asian all know kungfu and have magic asian powers
