I’d rather them have their firetruck with them if they’re away from the station, then if they get a call they can just jump in the truck and go. If they were on the clock and in their own vehicles, they’d have to drive back to the station to gear up.
In this community and mine which is next door, it is S.O.P. to take the firetruck with all their gear aboard in case they get a call. Butte County does get a lot of structure and open field fire calls where their big truck is needed.

and that is why it’s pretty much S.O.P. for all firestations. sometimes it’s just not worth it to nickel and dime everything to death.
