“Everybody” knows that 90 minutes one were crap, that got “sucked” into inner workings of thing playing it.
120-minute tapes would do this, yes, but I never had any trouble with my hundred or so 90-min ones. Maybe you just had crap hardware.

And it was not only me, and not only one company cassettes suffered from this.
It was the 120’s that were trouble in certain decks. The 90’s were the dependable tapes. I have about 200+ of them- no problems at all. And, you could usually fit an entire album on one side.
