I’ve been playing a bit of the Destiny Beta on PS3, and boy howdy it’s been a blast. I do have some concerns about the story, as it does seem to be a convoluted mess at the moment, the key example being the first line of the game is something along the lines of “Ah, you’ve been dead for a long time, the world has ended” and then they never talk about it again. Also, it seems that they’ve removed the Moon Wizard line, which was a damn shame as I haven’t been able to experience it for myself. For all my concerns though, there are many things that they’re doing right. I’m getting a distinct MassEffect3 feeling when I’m running around the Tower (the social/common area in Destiny), and the combat is some of the smoothest that I’ve experienced in my admittedly limited time with FPS games on the PS3.
What I’m interested in though is trying the three man fireteam out, but I have no PS3 friends. Feel free to add me : tgiokdi and shoot me a message about the game.
Thanks to Schfuture for the code, I greatly appreciate it!
Been playing it on the 360 and having been part of a 3 man team with all 3 playing different classes, there doesn’t seem to be too much difference between them. That could just be because the beta’s level capped at 8 and all the fun stuff for each class opens up later.
So far it feels like a Halo / Mass Effect / Borderlands mash up and I’m really OK with that. PvE stuff is fun and I’m looking forward to going back through the Cosmodrome and finding out if there’s more hidden tunnels and the like. Found some high level enemies skulking down there my first night but I’ve leveled up a bit and I want them to meet my new machine gun. They’ll be best friends! PvP stuff seems quite balanced at the moment, but that could be change down the road once you’re a meager level 5 facing some uber level 20.
All in all I’m glad I’ve preordered it.
I’m getting the same feeling too, and the ability to drop in and drop out of a mission really speaks to where I am in life, I don’t have time to dedicate 8 hours to a mission, I have like 2.
Yeah, so far I like how the area’s seem to be broken up. You’ve got the story missions which so far have been pretty short but pretty fast paced at the same time. You’ve the Strike missions which are quite intense. Seriously, I tired it on Hard with 3 people and we got mauled on the first objective. They feel like they’re going to be the parts you have to have all the right gear and set up for and I guess you’ll end up getting better loot. Straight out of Borderlands 101. Finally there’s the Explore which is just a fun and simple way of leading you about the map and showing it off.
So basically it’s as you say, Tiki, you can just jump in and do a few missions, or you can give it more time and it’ll reward you either way.
The Strike missions, that was with the walking tank? if it was, I started with a random match fireteam, one guy dropped, so me and one other dude finished it ourselves, level 5 and 6. it was interesting
Yeah, that’s the Strike mission. I like the bit with the tank because it does lend itself to teamwork so hopefully there’ll be more interesting ones along the way other than ‘hey you guys let’s all shoot the same spot!’. People have been complaining about the lack of voice chat in the game but seeing as typically no one talks online anyway I didn’t notice a huge difference.
Sorry to see they shut down the servers. Bungie had hinted they’d be staying up past the 27th but I guess they had a lot of things they wanted to change. Sadly now I just don’t want to play anything else.
I was unsure about this game after the E3 reveal trailer. However, after playing it with some friends, I’m happy to say I was wrong. It’s Borderlands without the wisecracks, and Mass Effect without the bullshit ending. If Bungie can pull it off, then I think this may be this generations defining game up to this point.
Destiny looks like a uterus.
