It’s a macho, dominance thing. Slip your ring finger to the inside of the handshake and a lot of the pressure is relieved.
Until now, I have used my middle finger in such situation, and it has been much more useful!
The “floppy dead fish” handshake, is bad too.
I’ll take that over the limp fish, cuz I’m always ready for a good firm handshake. Even many women like a good firm handshake.
