Shirley Jackson is most famous for her short story, The Lottery, and her novel, The Haunting Of Hill House. Here’s a story I like almost as much as Lottery.
“The Daemon Lover” by Shirley Jackson
God she’s ugly. Were’re talking Steven King and H.P. Lovecraft territory. So she must be a tremendous writer. I will check her out.
She looks perfectly ordinary to me. Neither beautiful or ugly. However, you are correct in your guess that she’s a tremendous writer. The above mentioned Stephen King rates her highly and name checks her as an influence in Dance Macabre. Neil Gaiman is also a fan.
It’s a rule, if you want to write good horror, you have to be ugly. I don’t know why, but it just seems to be how if goes.
I mean have you seen Hitchcock?
