I saw Silent Running for the first time just a few years ago. My Dad told me about it and called Huey and Dewey the progenitors of R2-D2, so I had to see it.
I really like the movie(and I watched it again just a week ago, strangely enough). The old school special effects are beautiful, Bruce Dern’s performance is wonderfully eccentric and tragic, and the story only more relevant today.

I’m old enough that I actually remember when this movie was in theaters. Big businesses, especially the timber/logging firms, hated the movie’s save the Earth theme.
When I was 11 years old, My dad took me to see this movie. It’s still one of my favorites. I cried when Louie was destroyed.
I saw this on tv when I was a little girl and the ending made me cry.
