The writer understates the ridiculousness of the claims about katanas. He had one made in modern times, undoubtedly in a gas furnace. In the glory days of samurai, they would have used coal, which would add carbon with every folding. A million folds would result in the most brittle thing ever.
they really were brittle though. The edges of the blade actually flaked off tiny bits constantly to the point that they were serrated…which makes it even easier to cut flesh and wooden armor. But they had to constantly clean, check, and treat the things or they would break. (Dead Rising actually did the research…the Katana is one of the strongest weapons…but it breaks after like 5 zombies). That was because Japan has very little iron, and they tried to make the best they could out of it.
LOL. The writer paid twenty grand for a knife so now he has to write all that stuff to justify the buy. Next time get a bokken for 50 bucks. You can do pretty much the same stuff with it.
