As a straight white male, I used to agree with this, and I would actually be a little hurt and resentful about the idea that other people could say they felt good about themselves, but I wasn’t allowed to.
But then I started to notice times when I was treated better, given more things, and assumed to be smarter or more capable than people of other ethnicities who may have been standing next to me, equally talented, or participating in the same activities.
Then I started to notice how the lead characters in movies and television are still, very often, white men, and occasionally, white women. (There’s a funny article somewhere about how Will Smith is the one exception to this rule.) Black people, for example, are still most often in support roles to white heroes, even when/especially when they have “powerful magic” or “soul wisdom.”
Then I started working with people who are homeless and in poverty, while living in one of the whitest major cities in the US, and I noticed that that is not reflected in those in poverty. It is, however, still reflected in our media, government, and, quite often, local leaders.
More recently, I’ve started learning about things like ethnic psychological captivity, and how being in a culture that tells you that you are inherently not as good as those around you can create significant shame. In response, it may be a good and healthy thing to actively be proud of your culture and your identity.
You can also be proud of being white, or straight, or a male, or whatever other majority trait you may have if you want to, but, in a culture that already celebrates all of those things every day, you probably don’t need to.
When the Mexicans make a movie and all the characters are Mexican, nobody bats an eye.
When the Japanese make a movie and all the characters are Japanese, nobody bats an eye.
When the Indians (from India) make a movie and all the characters are Indian, nobody bats an eye.
When the gringos make a movie and the ethnicity that comprises 10% of the population doesn’t have at least 50% of all the characters, everyone goes batshit insane.
If you’re only 10% of the population, you shouldn’t expect to be represented by more than 10% of the fictional characters you see. It’s simple math, people, and if you were Asian instead of Black you’d understand it.

I understand the point that’s trying to be made, but I have to ask what the fuck is there to be proud about?
This isnt something that was earned or achieved, its a random chance of birth.
Its like stating, I have blue eyes, and I’m proud, its meaningless.
Basically it shows that most people are dumb.
I am not proud to be a funny pink colour, but I am proud of what I have achieved with my life.
Guess its easier to be proud of something that takes no fucking effort, Gee I’m 6’3″ I’m really proud of myself….fucking goobers.
That’s kind of how lots of Europeans feel about the common American “proud to be American” attitude. Ask the average Norwegian if they are proud to be a Norwegian and they’ll likely respond with something like ‘No. I feel fortunate to have been born Norwegian. I’m proud of things I’ve had to strive to achieve.’ Different perspective.

Being white is the only one that makes sense.
Then you get some half wit who thinks their grade 10 history class covered more than European history and they’ll swear war is a white thing.
Civilization is a white thing. Progress, humility, morality…all white people things. We gave you those.
Plus white is way too broad. There are sub types: Nordic, Alpine, Anglo Saxon, and two others I can’t remember.
We’re told not to be proud of it to dilute our influence. Culture breeds progress and we’re restricted from our cultures.
White people are in charge for millions of reasons and like it or not Louis CK is a fat fucking has been who knows jack shit. White people if anything will be pushing back against this PC bullshit sooner than you think.
So start kissing ass and apologizing now or swing by your necks. :DF have a shitty day
The great thing about life is you get to be whoever you want to be, and mostly believe whatever you want.
If your circle of consideration is yourself and a few people you hang out with, and you need to feel good about that, well, you seem to be doing great.
If you’d rather learn about people you don’t know, and try to understand their perspectives, that’s available to you as well.

Anyway, Louis CK talks about this a lot better:
