“This kind of thing” certainly focuses your rebuttal.
Why should the tax payer fund several years of fake knowledge or socialist indoctrination? Let support – if required – come from the gaining entity: unions, political organizations, foreign enemies, etc.
I would concede, given how tax money is so often wasted anyway, that there may be value in subsidizing studies of value to the economy (strength of the nation)such as medicine, hard science, engineering.

Heh…I graduated into a job because I took real classes and got a real degree. Can’t find a job because you have a PhD in art history or Medival Fabric weaving? All my friends with real degrees in things like engineering, medicine, etc don’t seem to be having this problem.
Picking an unmarketable asshat degree with no relevance to the economy should have some consequences.
Because those are the only people having trouble with this kind of thing, right?
