I’ve been watching the new Turtles with my daughter on nick, and I can’t help but wonder why the Turtles is not darker than it is. Let me caveat that by saying that I’m not advocating to see blood and gore on a children’s show. It just seems that they could do with allot less stupid jokes, and more focus on beating the crap out of Shredder and the foot clan.
They way that the bad guys are depicted is that they can easily stomp the Turtles, but then the Turtles pull out a minor win, and I mean just enough to make the bad guys retreat, and call it a day. There is no movement in the story line, there are no stated goals, and no one seems to care on either side. Shredder never does anything original. He spouts idiotic catch phrases, and makes grand declairations and never follows through. His minions never are hurt, there are no consequences good or bad in any of the stories. It’s pure crap.
Yes, I get it that it is a children’s show. But am I the only one who thinks that there should be some consequences after the battles. You can’t kill anyone on the shows, but there should be some injuries; “Sorry Master Shredder, I can’t fight the Turtles for you for at least the next 6 weeks because my arm was broken when Donatello hit it with his three inch staff.”
Does that move the story along? No. But then again it’s not being moved along now. I’m just asking for stated goals by the characters, movement towards the goals, consequences on both sides after the battles, and an actual running story line instead of scheme after scheme after scheme.
