I think the implied meaning is that they view them as extremist nutcases and non-Representative of the religion as a whole.
And people who believe the WBC is a joke and not a real threat might end up feeling shortsighted sometime in the future. Here’s to hoping someone’s keeping tabs on them.
Note the quotes on “Islamic”- it’s clear she’s talking about the fact that they are not representative of the religion, not that their actions or motives are the same.
But that’s the point. One shouldn’t view them the same on the superficial basis of them being extreme variants or not. One should legitimately view them differently based upon their penchant for indiscriminant violence. Many things can be “out of the norm”, but that doesn’t make them all the same in terms of risk and danger.
And most non-muslims would be happy to exterminate the WBC if they turned violent. But we don’t see the same reflex from muslims when it comes to the muslim extremists. We see tolerance and defensiveness of the most violent and inexcusable factions. Which is totally unacceptable.

Also, Westboro is a hoax – not really a religious group. They are a family of attorneys (all registered Democrats) who make a living provoking people people to attack them and so they can sue them and the local police dept. Google them.
Not sure how the Democrat bit is relevant since we are already talking about people who are non-representative of the larger group in which they claim to be. Still, you are correct. The Westboro Baptist Church is a moneymaking scheme that emulates in real life what trolls do on the internet–say horrible things and get their jollies (and lentiginous profit) off of the people who foolishly react to them.
As someone that’s seen some pretty heartbreaking interviews of members of that family, I disagree. They’re very earnest in what they believe, and even though they might make money from getting sued, I very much doubt that’s the end of the story.
It’s a religious group in every sense of the word. Oh, and if religious groups weren’t just that because they fooled people out of their money there would *be* no religious groups.

Wow, nice bit of group think to vote down a comment that bursts your echo chamber.
And wist, the Democrat tag is relevant because most low-info voters assume Westboro is an archetype for the intolerance of religious republicans.
Am re-reading my “censored” comment to see what was so offensive. All I can see is that you guys blew a gasket over the fact that Westboro are registered Dems. If thats wrong, pls provide another explanation.
First step is to register so you’re not just another anonymous account, that way people can have a conversation with you without confusing you with others.
Apparently it is true that Fred Phelps is a democrat (I haven’t checked on the others in that family). I find it hard to imagine how these people decide on which party is the lesser evil, though.
It’s quite understandable that people mistake them for republicans, though, since (let’s be honest) that’s where most of the hateful bigots seem to reside.
Perhaps people reacted to your insinuation that they don’t believe what they claim to believe.
(thinks about a way to make those two groups, “nullify” each other)
So muslims think Islamic terrorist are a joke and not a real threat?
because of obama…wait that doesn’t sound right…shit?

Real speech.
WBC never hurt anyone (not counting the trauma of their children) except emotionally. There’s a small difference there.
Typical Muslim: not seeing any difference between people practicing their free speech and terrorist bombers /hyperbole.
